All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain on Wednesday told reporters that he was still hoping to make a comeback into the national side for the ICC World Cup in England and Wales on the back of his decent performances in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
Mosaddek is captaining the star-studded Abahani Limited in the DPL and under his leadership Abahani have maintained their iron grip on the top position in the points-table with seven wins in eight matches.
Mosaddek has led the side from the front, making 285 runs with four fifties and claiming seven wickets in the league.
The 23-year old expressed his satisfaction over his performances but claimed that a place in Bangladesh World Cup squad will give him the ultimate satisfaction.
‘When a player starts performing well, he naturally feels happy. But I will be truly satisfied only if I fulfill my goal of going to the World Cup. Only then my hopes will be fulfilled,’ he said.
Mosaddek, who was the highest wicket taker in Bangladesh’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy campaign in England with three wickets, was inspired to learn that his name was being considered for Bangladesh’s World Cup-bound flight, but insisted on maintaining his focus on DPL if it doesn’t pan out eventually.
‘It’s actually inspiring for me. I’m getting some hints. It will be true only if the complete announcement comes.
‘Even if the announcement doesn’t come, my job is to keep performing. I am playing in the [Dhaka] Premier League; my job is to continue performing. Rest is up to Allah.
‘I don’t know whether it will happen or not. But it’s very inspiring for me to be in their radar. I have said before, if we perform better than others we will be ahead,’ he said.
Mosaddek made his international debut for Bangladesh in Twenty20 international match against Zimbabwe in Khulna on January 20, 2016 and since has featured for Bangladesh in all three formats.
Mosaddek last played for the national side in a one-day international match against India at the 2018 Asia Cup in Dubai in September, which Bangladesh lost.
