A new-look Bangladesh national team will be hoping to make a turn-around when they take on hosts West Indies in their first of the three-match one-day international series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana today.
The match is scheduled to start at 7:30pm Bangladesh Standard time and GTV and Channel 9 will live telecast the match.
The Tigers provided a dismal show in the two-match Test series against the hosts as they suffered a humiliating 2-0 series defeat where they also failed to cross the 200-run mark in any of their four innings.
Bangladeshi bowlers, especially the seamers also had no clue against the Caribbean batsmen who dominated the inexperienced Bangladesh bowling attack throughout the series.
After being all-out for 43 runs — Bangladesh’s lowest ever Test inning total in the first innings of the first Test in Antigua — the Tigers could never come back from the trauma and lost the Tests by an innings and 219 runs and 166 runs respectively.
However, the Tigers got something to cheer them up from the practice game against the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI when they beat the opposition by four wickets in Jamaica on Thursday.
The presence of skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza along with pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the one-day squad will boost the Bangladeshi bowling attack.
Pacer Rubel Hossain also put up a brilliant display in the practice match that would surely enlarge his confidence after a disappointing performance in the Test series.
Though the experienced batting line-up of Tamim Iqbal, Sakib al Hasan, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim had disappointed time to time over the last few one-day series but Bangladesh would be hoping they would finally come strong in the series.
This will also be Bangladesh’s first one-day international match in six months since they played their last ODI match against Sri Lanka in a tri-series final in Dhaka in January this year.
On the other hand, the inclusion of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell will surely add more confidence into the Caribbean side as they will be hoping carry their brilliant form in the ODI series.
All-rounder Russell will be making a comeback into the West Indies ODI squad after a gap of nearly three years.
Russell played his last ODI match against Sri Lanka in Colombo back in November, 2015.
