Four people have been killed after inhaling carbon dioxide inside a scrap ship in a ship breaking yard in the Sitakundu upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

Inspector (Investigation) of the Sitakunda police station Aminur Islam confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Aminur said: “A group of people numbering seven to eight, went to the ship breaking yard to buy equipment from a scrap ship. While checking the equipments, they mistakenly pulled out the clip of a cylinder full of carbon dioxide and four of them died on the spot around 3:30pm.
The injured were rushed to Al-Amin Hospital,” he added.
Of the injured, the condition of two is critical, said hospital source.
