To ensure the security of the thousands of people expected to visit the Central Shaheed Minar on 21 February, around 20,000 police will be deployed in and around the Dhaka University campus.
Around 8,000 security officials including at least 1,000 plainclothes officials would mainly be deployed in and around the Shaheed Minar while others would guard the entire campus and surrounding areas, said DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at a news briefing on Thursday.
“We are going for a blanket security arrangement,” he said.
The commissioner also said a four-tier security arrangement would be in place. The officials will also use binoculars to watch the Shaheed Minar area from watchtowers.
