US embassy seeks adequate security measures

Amid escalating demonstrations in and around diplomatic zones over the last few days, US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena on Wednesday voiced deep concern over security matter and sought adequate security measures for the US mission in Dhaka and its staff.

The US envoy conveyed the concern during a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali held at the state guesthouse ‘Padma’ at 2pm.

Mozena sought enough security measures for the US mission and its staff at the meeting, sources at the Foreign Ministry said.

In response, the foreign minister assured him of strengthening the security measures for the mission and its personnel.

The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held at 12:30pm at the Foreign Ministry, but finally held at Padma at 2pm.

Earlier on Tuesday, the US envoy at a meeting with foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque also expressed his deep concern about the security for the US embassy as a whole.
