Tortured journalist Mizanur Rahman has filed an appeal to the Patuakhali District and Daera Judge Court on Monday against the order of a judicial magistrate that rejected his bail petition.
The appeal hearing will be conducted on Tuesday, at Mizanur’s presence.
Mizanur was arrested by Bauphal police on 17 March on charge of assaulting police and obstructing government duties. In police custody, he was subjected to violent torture throughout the night. Later, he was sent to jail.
The hearing of his bail appeal was conducted at Patuakhali Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Sunday. After the hearing, the judge denied his bail appeal and ordered to send him to jail. The court ordered the jail superintendent to provide Mizan with necessary medical facilities.
Lutfur Rahman, Mizan’s lawyer, said after the bail petition was filed at the District and Daera Judge Court, tomorrow was fixed the date of Mizan’s bail hearing.
Mizan’s father Abdus Salam complained that Mizan was tortured because of highlighting the ruling party’s corruption in his reports. Mizan was harassed with several false charges previously as well, he added.
