Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday condemned the power hungry leaders for their inclination to grab leadership for years.
Despite repeated requests from the party’s president Sheikh Hasina, many leaders did not felt interest in holding council session in district units, he said.
He also asked the party leaders and activists to hold council session in upazila, union and ward units if the units are still awaiting the special session.
Syed Ashraf said the party would lose spirit if it evade council sessions.
He was addressing the AL Thakurgaon unit’s triennial council at the district council auditorium as the chief guest.
The session was inaugurated through the national anthem. AL central committee joint general secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif hoisted the national flag while Syed Ashraf hoisted the party flag at the programme.
AL Thakurgaon district president Romesh Chandra Sen presided over the session. The programme was also addressed by Thakurgaon unit general secretary Sadek Quraishi and office secretary Mostak Alam.
AL presidium member Satish Chandra Roy, central organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, lawmakers Selina Jahan and Dabirul Islam, and former lawmaker Imdadul Haque.
