Shibir ranks world 3rd top most armed group

Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has protested the IHS Jane’s study that ranked it third among the top ten most active non-state armed groups across the world in 2013.

The organisation has strongly condemned the ranking and expressed astonishment.

It has issued a press release in this regard on Tuesday.

The press release read: “We are surprised that the US-based defence think-tank has enlisted us among the top non-state armed groups. As a non-violent and peaceful organisation, we are strongly condemning the report.”

Questioning the source behind the study, it said: “They did not mention any single incident in the report that could prove our involvement with any armed attack.”

“We thereby denounced and protested the ranking,” the release added.

Shibir has ranked third among the top ten most active non-state armed groups across the world in 2013, said a study of HIS Pressroom.

The HIS study titled “IHS Jane’s 2013 Global Terrorism & Insurgency Attack Index”, ranked Shibir third in the list beating militant Islamist organization al-Qaeda, Iraq that has ranked fifth.

The US-based research group released the story on its website on February 13.
