Shakib fifty powers KKR to 30-run win over RCB

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 30 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Thursday.

A superb batting performance by Robin Uthappa and Shakib Al Hasan helped the KKR to put a huge total of 195 runs for four wickets.

Uthappa scored unbeaten 83 runs off 51 balls smashing 10 boundaries and one six while allrounder Shakib contributed 60 runs off 38 balls with five boundaries and three sixes.

The RCB won the toss and chose to field first.

Chasing a mammoth total of 196 runs, the RCB sent Chris Gayle and Yogesh Takawale into bat, but they were dealt an early blow when Gayle was declared out for LBW on just six runs. Takawale boosted the RCB attack with a knock of 45 off 36 balls hammering five boundaries and one six.

Skipper Virat Kohli scored 38 runs off 31 balls with three boundaries and one six.

However, it was not enough for the side as they reached 165 for five wickets after 20 overs.

KKR bowler Sunil Narine took four wickets for 20 runs from four overs.

Uthappa was adjudicated man of the match for his outstanding batting performance.
