SAARC SUMMIT 2014 Sheikh Hasina for profound regional cooperation

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday called for a profound cooperation between the SAARC member countries in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, food and climate change technologies for facilitating economic and social developments of the South Asian region.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 18th SAARC Summit here at City Hall in Kathmandu, she stressed on the collective efforts to develop, use and apply science-technological innovations at all levels, our correspondent Mahamudul Hasan reports from Kathmandu.
The prime minister also stressed on the multimodal physical connectivity  between the territories and communities of SAARC member states for ensuring overall peace, progress and stability across the South Asia.
She said that Bangladesh believes in connecting ideas, knowledge, technology, culture, people, road-rail-air communications, movements of goods, services and investments between the SAARC member countries.
Referring Bangladesh’s full support to the progress made on the regional motor vehicle agreement and regional railways agreement, Hasina urged all SAARC leaders to lend their supports to advance implementation of the connectivity.
Bangladesh’s PM focused on increasing intra-regional trade and effective implementation of SAFTA and said that the SAARC nations would particularly need to address the non-tariff and para-tariff barriers.
She said that the people of Bangladesh wanted to see robust actions in every matter as they focused on ‘outcomes’ than the ‘process’.
At SAARC level, Hasina, put emphasis on securing result-oriented implementation of the regional agreements and plans through cross-border initiatives.
