PM returns home from Myanmar

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on Tuesday night, wrapping up her two-day visit to Myanmar to attend the third Bimstec Summit at Nay Pyi Taw.

 

A flight of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:10 pm.

 

Cabinet members, senior civil and military officials received her at the airport.

 

During her stay in Myanmar, the Prime Minister delivered her speech at the third Bimstec Summit urging all the member countries for intensifying their collective efforts to make the region secure, stable and prosperous one through combating poverty and other challenges.

 

She also had meetings with Myanmar President Thein Sein, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Speaker of Myanmar Parliament Shwe Mann and Myanmar’s National League for Democracy leader and Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

 

Bimstec (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
