PDP also proposes polls-time govt formula

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday proposed a formula for an all-party election-time ‘national government’ with ministers who will not contest the next polls.

Addressing a press briefing at the PDP office, its chairman Ferdous Ahmad Qureshi said the ‘national government’ proposed by his party will be composed of 10 ministers nominated by the ruling and the opposition parties, but ministers must not contest the national election.

Both the ruling and the opposition parties will nominate five members each for the government, he said, adding that the prime minister for the ‘national government’ will be picked from the treasury bench and the home minister from the opposition.

Qureshi added that the current Prime Minister should not be the prime minister of the proposed government.

The press briefing was also attended by PDP joint-secretary general Amir Hossain and standing committee member Khalequzzaman Chowdhury.
