International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Tuesday fixed January 3 for passing an order on the appeals filed by three war crimes suspects seeking retrial of their cases.
The accused — Jamaat leaders Ghulam Azam, Motiur Rahman Nizami and Delwar Hossain Sayedee — are facing the trial for committing crimes against humanity during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
The three-member tribunal headed by ATM Fazle Kabir fixed the date after hearing on the appeals came to an end today.
During Tuesday's hearing, defence counsels Abdur Razzak and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia placed their submissions on the petitions for reinitiating the cases against Ghulam Azam, Nizami and Sayedee while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam placed his statements on the behalf of the trial proceedings.
The retrial petitions came after an alleged Skype conversation between former tribunal-1 chief Justice Nizamul Huq and expatriate legal expert Ahmed Ziauddin was published by a Bangla daily earlier on December in 2012.
Justice Huq resigned from the tribunal post citing personal reasons after his conversation through Skype with the legal expert was published.
