NUB lecturer held for remarks on Bangabandhu

A Northern University lecturer, who allegedly made derogatory comments against Bangabandhu, the president and the prime minister, has been arrested from Shibbari area on the university campus in Khulna on Thursday.

The law department teacher, Rajib Hasnet Shakil, has been arrested under special provision.

Confirming the arrest, Assistant Commissioner of Sonadanga Zone police Md Nasir Uddin Zobayer said the police have filed a case against the law teacher of the university under special provision.

Rajib allegedly made derogatory comments on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during delivering lecture in his class in January.

A student, Md Nayeem, opposed his remarks and protested the issue. Later, the university authority expelled him following the protest.

Nayeem called a press conference in Khulna press club on June 29. The daily Janakhantha published the report on June 30.

On the basis of the media report, Advocate Abdul Malek alias Moshiur Malek, president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed a defamation case against Rajib and Northern University Khulna Campus In-charge, Dr Anowarul Kabir.

The police also took Dr Anwarul Karim to Sonadanga police station. Later, he was released after primary interrogation, said Nasir Uddin.

  1. Hasina has created a police state. She is determined to put Sheikh Mujib as the father of us all regardless what we feel. This is called shoving one’s will onto others. It is opposite of democracy or authoritarian rule. May Allah bless Bangladesh
