NSU student assault: Protest at Bashundhara

Protesting the assault on an NSU student by security guards at Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka, students of the university have taken to the streets.

On Wednesday midnight, a fight broke out between guards and students who were protesting the incident.

The assaulted student, Shahriar Hasnat Tapu, is from BBA sixth semester, who was treated at Apollo Hospital.

Students said Tapu received injuries in several parts of his body.

Tapu and another student allegedly got into a fight with the Bashundhara security guards over parking a motorcycle at the Apollo Gate, an entrance to the residential area, around 10pm.

At one stage of the arguments, the guards attacked them, sources said.

Additionally, when 10 to 15 other students went to the area to inquire about the incident, the guards beat them up too. Later, more students joined, and a fight ensued.

The students at the spot allege that the guards were still beating Tapu up even though he was lying unconscious at the time. Tapu vomited at the place three to four times as well.

After a CT scan, the doctors said Tapu was ‘out of danger’. He was taken home around 2:30am.

On hearing about the incident, students of the university came and launched protests and had been shouting slogans demanding action against the guards as well.
