Newspapers publishing old photos of bad roads: Obaidul

Obaidul Quader

Amid widespread media reports on shabby road condition across the country, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday claimed that 80% repair works of the damaged roads and highways have been completed within the given deadline.

“The repair works on the rest 20 percent roads and highways will be finished soon,” the minister said while talking to reporters after visiting roads at Moghbazar area in Dhaka.

The minister, however, accused a section of newspapers of publishing a series of old pictures of damaged roads and highways. “Some of the media are using three-year-old photos of the highways, which is not fair,” he said.

Obaidul urged the newspapers to publish the latest pictures of the roads and highways. “I’m personally monitoring the situation so that homebound people can have a safe journey for celebrating Eid.”

He hoped that people will be able to go home more comfortably than the last time.

Quader also said that the engineers of Roads and Highways department have been given strict instruction to repair the damaged roads and highways even in rain or any other problems on emergency basis.
