Myanmar border force Border Guard Police (BGP) is yet to repatriate ‘abducted’ Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member Abdur Razzak. Not only that, but a picture of him in handcuffs has been posted on the BGP Facebook page.
BGB on Friday sent e-mail and fax messages to BGP, protesting Razzak’s captivity.
BGB protest said no international law allows detaining and torturing a neighbouring country’s border force member.
This is an insult not only for the BGB but for the 16 million people of Bangladesh, it added.
When asked, state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told Prothom Alo, BGB has already sent a letter to BGP regarding the incident.
Myanmar ambassador to Dhaka was summoned by the foreign ministry and asked to repatriate the BGB member, Asaduzzaman added.
“We hope, Myanmar will soon repatriate him (Razzak),” the minister said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Myanmar troops shot at a BGB patrol team near the border and allegedly detained injured BGB Nayek Mizanur Rahman, intruding into Bangladesh territory.
A fresh gunfight started on Friday as BGB personnel approached the border to see whether the body of missing Mizanur had been taken away by Myanmar troops.
