he High Court on Monday declared illegal the lower court order to continue the bank account operation of Omar Faruq Talukder, APS to ex-Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta, now a minister without portfolio, at the Dilkhusha branch of Mercantile Bank.

After a rule hearing on a writ petition filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging the legality of the lower court order keeping Faruq’s bank account operative, an HC division bench comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Sheikh M Zakir Hossain passed the order.

On April 9 last year, an allegation was surfaced that then Railways Minister Suranjit’s APS Faruq was caught red-handed by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) with TK 70 Lakh as bribe money while he was going to Suranjit’s Jigatala residence by a motorised vehicle.

Following the allegation, the ACC filed a case with a designated court against APS Faruq, and the court ordered freezing his bank account with the Dilkhusha branch of Mercantile Bank.

Later, the lower court in an order reopened his bank account prompting the ACC to move to the higher court seeking a remedy against the court order.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC while advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury for Faruq.
