Senior BNP leader Rafiqul Islam Mia on Saturday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would go to jail in future for the corruption in her government.
His remarks came in response to Hasina’s comment that both leaders of the Awami League and BNP would be sent to jail like in 2007 if the caretaker government is reinstated.
“Why the opposition leader [Khaleda Zia] will be jailed? She did not launder billions of Taka from the share market, she did not protect anyone linked to corruption in Padma bridge , she did not approve the quick rental power project to loot money, and she also did not loot any money from Hall-Mark and Destiny [financial scams],” Rafiqul Islam told a programme at the National Press Club.
“All these happened during the current Prime Minister’s tenure. That’s why the cases to be filed over these issues will accuse her and not our leader,” he said.
The BNP Standing Committee member said justice will be done in all cases of corruptions if BNP comes to power in the next term.
Criticising the Prime Minister for her remarks regarding Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia, he said, “Nobody expects such impolite remarks. The way you attacked the opposition leader is offensive, dirty and false.”
Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia had joined a discussion on ‘Anti-Terrorism Act (Amendment-2013) is not helpful to preserve public rights’.
Regarding the act, he said the government amended the law in a hurry only to suppress the opposition. “The changes brought into the law goes completely against the human rights and people’s basic rights provided by the Constitution.”
He also reiterated his party’s demand to reinstate a non-party government to oversee the next general elections, scheduled to be held later this year.
