Exports to Germany, UK, France post modest growth in July-Feb of FY14

 

Country’s exports to key destinations like Germany, UK and France posted modest growth in the first eight months (July-February) of the current fiscal as compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2012-13).

 

In July-February of 2013-14 fiscal, exports to Germany totalled $ 3,172.99 million, which was 16 percent of total export earnings for the eight-month period. Of the amount, knitwear accounted for $ 1,725.50 million, woven garments $ 1,210.88 million and frozen shrimp $ 53.54 million, according to latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

 

The EPB figures showed exports to the UK during July-February period totalled $ 1,866.77 million, which was 9.41 percent of the total export earnings for the period.

 

Export of RMG items to the UK accounted for $ 1,657.61 million in July-February of 2013-14, a growth of 4.24 percent over $ 1,590.22 million during the same period of the previous fiscal. The home textile export to the UK during the period was $ 48.37 million, frozen shrimp $ 61.54 million and bicycles $ 38.24 million.

 

Exports to France during the period increased to $ 1,081.04 million, which accounted for 5.45 percent of the total export earnings for the eight month period.

 

RMG exports to France rose to $ 988.65 million in July-February of fiscal 2013-14 as against $ 876.96 million during the same period of the previous fiscal (2012-13), showing a 12.74 percent growth.

 

Exports to Italy totalled $ 850.22 million this July-February with knitwear accounting for $ 463.63 million, woven garment $ 287.99 million and leather $ 45.42 million.

 

Exports to Belgium amounted to $ 634.42 million that included knitwear $ 285.49 million, woven garment $ 222.13 million and frozen shrimp $ 65.94 million.

 

Export earnings from the USA, the largest market for Bangladesh goods, registered a growth of 7.26 percent in July-February of the current fiscal totalling $ 3,723.49 million, which was 18.78 percent of the total export earnings for the period.

 

The Netherlands, another big export destination for Bangladesh, imported goods worth $ 585 million during the July-February period. The amount included knitwear $ 261.17 million, woven garment $ 195.55 million and frozen shrimp $ 60.12 million.

 

Among the Middle East, Far East and South Asian countries, exports to Japan totalled $ 590.66 million, Singapore $ 101.56 million and China $ 467.32 million.

 

Among the South Asian countries, exports to India amounted to $ 245.18 million during the period that included jute and jute made goods $ 36.94 million and woven garment $ 54.91 million while exports to Australia totalled $ 327.87 million, including $ 96.28 million from woven garments and $ 199.67 million from knitwear.
