Dhaka stocks surge 127 points amid US-Iran ceasefire news

The DSEX, benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), witnessed a sharp surge in early trading today (8 April), as investors reacted positively to news of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States and the subsequent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The broad index of the premier bourse jumped 127 points to reach 5,284 within the first hour of trading by 10:30am. Similarly, the blue-chip index, the DS30, advanced 44 points to stand at 2,016, reflecting a robust recovery in high-value stocks.

The market showed strong investor confidence with 373 issues advancing and only three declining, while six remained unchanged.

Market participation also saw a significant boost, with turnover hitting Tk200 crore within the first 30 minutes of the day’s session.
