Officials of Detective Branch of police arrest Jony Wednesday night on charge of instigating the murder of Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum.

A Dhaka court placed a friend of Oishee Rahman, who is an accused of killing her parents, on a five-day remand in the murder case on Thursday.

Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Begum were found dead in their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16.

Detectives arrested Asaduzzaman Jony, 27, a drug trader, at a residence in the capital’s Badda area around 10:00pm Wednesday on charge of instigating the murder, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch of police.

Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order after Abu-Al Khayer Matabbar, a DB inspector and also the investigation officer of the case, produced Jony before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

In the remand prayer, the IO said that Jony had instigated the murder and also sheltered Oishee after the killings.

“So he needs to be remanded to find out the vital clues about the killings,” he said.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Monirul said Jony, in primary interrogation, admitted that he had assured Oishee of sending her abroad after the murders.

Jony, was not brought before the reporters during the briefing held at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the capital.

Earlier, Oishee confessed to the killings and said her mothers’ strictness and supply of drugs from a friend Jony pushed her life into a different track.

She surrendered before Paltan Police Station on August 17 while Jony went into hiding after the incident.

Khadiza Khatun Sumi, a domestic help of the murdered couple, and Rony, another friend of Oishee, were also arrested on the same day in connection with the murder.
