At least five students were injured when a part of the floor of a class-IV classroom collapsed at Pirijpur Government Primary School in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj yesterday afternoon.
The injured received first aid at the local upazila health complex.
Acting headteacher Sabutar Nesa said a large crack suddenly appeared on the classroom floor while classes were underway. Shortly afterwards, a section of the floor collapsed, injuring five students.
Sheikh Md Rafiqul Islam, upazila primary education officer, said officials inspected the site after receiving the news. “Sand and soil on one side of the floor had shifted, which appears to have caused the collapse. However, the school building is relatively new.”
Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, acting upazila nirbahi officer, said the injured were given immediate treatment. “LGED engineers and education officials have been sent to the site. We will take further steps after receiving their inspection report.”
