Bangladesh Chhatra Maitri former president Bappaditya Basu was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday in connection with a pending warrant in Jashore over his conviction for three years.
The police and RAB officials said Bappaditya Basu was jailed for three years in connection with a case.
The RAB-10 commanding officer Commander Arafat Islam said Bappaditya Basu was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and was handed over to the Jashore police station.
Jashore Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzaq said they sent the convict to the court to implement the warrant related to his conviction without giving further details.
On Wednesday, a court in Jashore sent him to jail.
His wife Debangana Basu Chowdhury Nadi said her husband was at their family restaurant until Tuesday noon and no communication she could establish with him afterward.
‘I do not know where he is,’ she told New Age over phone on Wednesday night.
Bappaditya Basu hailed from Jashore and was a suspect in three other cases in Noakhali, Cumilla and Barishal.
In May 2018, Asif Nazrul, a law professor at Dhaka University, alleged that Bappaditya Basu, Chhatra Maitri, has threatened to publicly kill him.
