With white flags in their hands, the country’s businessmen today held rallies across the country urging politicians to restore normalcy through a political consensus.
“We want peace, political solution to this prevailing crisis. We want business-friendly environment in the country,” said Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), in the capital.
The businessmen made the call at a rally organised in front of the FBCCI Bhaban in the capital’s Motijheel area protesting prevailing political unrest centring the 10th parliamentary election.
Carrying while flags, thousands of businessmen from the garment and different other sectors took part in the rally under the banner of FBCCI.
They chanted slogans protesting the deadlock, which is hurting businesses across the country.
Beginning around 11:30am the rally continued for 45 minutes.
Addressing the rally, Akram Uddin threatened to go for a tougher programme if the political leaders do not respond their calls.
Urging political leaders to reach a consensus in a bid to save the business sector, the FBCCI president said they want hartal-blockade-violence-free Bangladesh.
Demanding healthy politics in the country, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Atiqul Islam said the backbone of the apparel sector has been broken down due to what he termed “sick politics”.
The districts chambers of FBCCI also held the same programme press their demand.
