Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday assured the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of forming a court of enquiry for the trial of BSF members responsible for the killing a Bangladeshi cattle trader along Chuadanga border early Sunday.
A Bangladeshi cattle trader, identified as Imran Hossain, 20, son of Mahiuddin of Hariharnagar village in the Jibannagar upazila, was shot dead by BSF troops at Medineepur frontier.
At a flag meeting on Sunday, the BSF expressed deep sorrow at the death of the Bangladeshi national as BGB strongly protested the killing, sources at the BGB Headquarters said.
As the BGB Headquarters sent a strong protest message to its BSF counterpart, the BSF authorities took the matter seriously and assured of punishing the perpetrators after forming a high-level court of enquiry within a short time.
BGB and local sources said BSF troops from Putkhali camp detained Imran and tortured him when he entered the Indian territory illegally in the early hours. Later, BSF members opened fire on Imran from near the camp, leaving him dead on the spot.
Local people recovered the bullet-hit body of Imran from a water body adjacent to Putkhali border.
BGB sent a letter to BSF Battalion-173, protesting the killing, added Asaduzzaman.
