BNP leaders for forming all committees democratically

Vital leaders of the national executive committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday suggested party chairperson Khaleda Zia to form committees at all levels through democratic process to strengthen the organisation. They came up with the suggestion as Khaleda had a meeting with the party’s vice-chairmen, joint secretaries and organising secretaries at her Gulshan office on Tuesday night. After the meeting that lasted about three hours from 9:00pm, a mid-level leader told New Age that the meeting mainly focused on forming committees at all levels particularly in grassroots level through democratic process which would strengthen the organisation and help the party strengthen movement. He said that the party chairperson gave positive nod to this notion and asked all concerned not to form any committee of their own choice without consulting grassroots leaders and activists. A senior leader said that the meeting mainly discussed organisational problems and disputes at different tiers of the organisation. Most of the leaders stated against forming pocket committee or imposed committee from central leaders, he said. He said that the meeting also discussed about movement and how to strengthen the organisation. Another leader said that the BNP chairperson said that the party would continue movement through peaceful programmes and take action depending on the government’s attitude and reaction to their peaceful movement. Khaleda did not make elaborate speech rather heard the party vice-chairmen, joint secretaries-general and organising secretaries, said sources present. BNP chairperson is scheduled for Thursday to hold a meeting with the party’s policymaking body. She held a meeting with her advisory council on Monday.
