Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was released from jail on bail on Wednesday.
The BNP leader walked out of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 around 5:07pm after his release order had reached the jail authorities, said senior jail super Prashanta Kumar Banik.
Rizvi’s family members, including his wife, and some BNP leaders and activists received him at the jail gate.
Talking to UNB, soon after his release, Rizvi said he was going to his residence in the capital’s Shaymoli area for taking rest as his health condition is not good.
He said he will soon receive treatment under a specialised doctor.
Earlier on Sunday, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that granted him bail in an arson case filed with Ramna police station.
On October 13, the High Court granted six months anticipatory bail to the BNP leader in the case filed on January 18, 2015 on charges of attempting to kill police after hurling petrol bombs on a vehicle.
On August 18 this year, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi surrendered before the court and the court sent him to jail after rejecting his bail petitions in the cases.
The High Court on September 7 granted bail to Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in five cases.
