Bail for Fakhrul, 3 others extended

A Dhaka court has extended the bail period of BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and three other leaders of the party in a case filed over the arson attack on a bus that killed a police constable in the capital’s Banglamotor.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat extended the bail till June 17 following a petition filed by the lawyer of the BNP leaders on Monday morning.

Joynul Abedin Mesbah, lawyer of the BNP leaders, confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the extention of the bail period.

Three other BNP leaders are party joint secretary general Aman Ullah Aman, standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and party activist Sirajul Islam.

All the four BNP leaders appeared before the court and pleaded for permanent bail. They had secured interim bail from the High Court in the case.

The court rejected their plea and extended their bail period.

The court also extended the deadline for submitting investigation report in another case filed with Ramna police station against seven BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul till June 17.

BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, party vice president Sadek Hossain Khoka, Aman Ullah Aman, Abdus Salam and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel appeared before the court in the case.

Monday was set for submitting the investigation report in the case filed over the killing of a pedestrian by a bus after losing control as pickets hurled petrol bombs at it at Malibagh level crossing on December 1 of last year.
