BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said Awami League has killed democracy in the country for the second time.
“The government has imposed its misrule on people without their mandate. It is unfortunate that democracy was killed by Awami League for the second time,” he said.
The BNP spokesperson was addressing the biennial councils of three local units of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) –Thakurgaon sadar upazila, Thakurgaon Poura and Thakurgaon government college units– at District Council auditorium.
He said the ruling party men are looting banks as corruption today spread everywhere. “Awami League is the champion of corruption.”
The BNP leader said democracy will simply fall flat if student organisations cannot be strengthened.
Referring to the student movements taken since 1952, Fakhrul said JCD will be reorganised in each college and educational institution as its role is very important in the current political context.
District unit BNP general secretary Taimur Rahman and other local leaders also spoke at the function presided over by district unit JCD president Rashed Alam Babu.
