The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken a move to persuade the Education Ministry to incorporate anti-corruption as a topic in textbooks, aiming to create awareness among students so that they could say no to corruption.
“We’ve already held talks with the Education Ministry and requested the ministry officials to add anti-corruption issue to textbooks,” ACC secretary M Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told the monthly press briefing of the commission at its media centre on Monday.
He said the Education Minister assured the anti-graft body of incorporating the anti-corruption chapter in textbooks so that the students can learn more about the negative impacts of corruption in society and can keep themselves away from graft.
Faizur Rahman said the ACC has already formed around 21,000 ‘integrity units’ at different schools, colleges, madrasahs and other educational institutions across the country with a view to creating the sense of honesty and sincerity in the minds of young generation.
Referring to its integrity units, he said the country is now getting the positive result of the integrity units as the young generation has already voiced against the graft.
The ACC secretary said the Commission is going to obverse the ‘Corruption Prevention Week 2014’ from March 26 to April 1 with a view to creating mass awareness against the all-pervasive graft.
ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman will formally inaugurate the week on March 26.
The ACC will arrange discussions, processions, rallies, exhibitions, oath taking programmes, ACC media award distribution ceremony and special sermons by religious leaders in worship places across the country marking the week.
