The newly elected mayors and councillors of three city corporations in bifurcated Dhaka and Chittagong took oath of office on Wednesday morning.
The sworn-in ceremony was held at Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the capital this morning, a TV channel reports.
The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, administered the oath of office to the three newly elected mayors of Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation around 10:35am.
Earlier, the minister for local government, rural development and co-operatives, Syed Ashraful Islam, conducted the oath to the newly elected councillors of the cities.
On April 30, the Election Commission officially declared Annisul Huq, Sayeed Khokon and AJM Nasir as mayors of DNCC, DSCC and CCC respectively by publishing gazettes.
The elections to the three city corporations in the capital and the port city were held on April 28.
