Bangladeshis abroad continue to reaffirm their patriotism and belief in their country by sending more money back home.
They have sent around $ 1.23 billion as remittance in July ahead of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Bank officials say.
The flow had slowed down a little in the last two months of the previous fiscal (May and June) but it picked up in the first month of 2013-14 fiscal (July).
Bangladesh Bank’s Foreign Reserve and Treasury Management division General Manager Kazi Saidur Rahman said people were remitting more to their families ahead of the Eid boosting the flow of foreign currency to the national exchequer.
“Remittances touched $1.23 billion in July,” Kazi Saidur Rahman said.
The central bank official said the foreign currency reserve had also increased. It was $15.59 billion on Sunday.
Expatriates had remitted $14.46 billion in the last 2012-13 fiscal, according to the Bangladesh Bank.
