A ‘pitha’ treat for poll-participating parties
Sheikh Hasina thanked all party members for their hard work and dedication that earned the party a big election victory
Ruling Awami League has decided to arrange a ‘Pitha Utshob’ (a traditional festival of rice cakes) to entertain all the political parties who participated in the 11th parliamentary election.
This decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Awami League Advisory Council and Central Working Committee at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office on Saturday evening. AL President Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.
AL party joint general secretary Abdur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune last night, “Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will invite the leaders of the political parties, who took part in the pre-election dialogue in November at Ganabhaban and in the December 30 polls, at a Pitha Utshob.”
The meeting discussed party’s plan to observe ‘Mujib Year’from March 2020 to March 2021, marking the centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth.
Sheikh Hasina told the meeting thatthe Awami League and the government will celebrate Bangabandhu’s 100th birth anniversary with festivity and also celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s independence in 2021.
During the meeting, Awami League leaders discussed the recently held election in which the Awami League-led grand alliance secured a landslide victory and Sheikh Hasina became prime minister for the fourth time leading a 47-strong council of ministers.

Awami League presidium member Muhammad Faruk Khan told the Dhaka Tribune that the meetingmainly discussed organizational issues where the party president instructed central leaders to work instrengthening the organization.
