Five members of Detective Branch of Police have been suspended for conducting a drive in the port city without any official permission.
Of the suspended DB members, two are SI Aminul Islam and ASI Jahir Uddin. The names of the other three constables could not be known immediately.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal on Thursday afternoon issued the suspension order and sent it to the DB headquarters in the city.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner (DB) SM Tanveer Arefin told the Dhaka Tribune: “The DB members were suspended as they conducted a drive at a Syed Nasim Ahmed’s office on June 8 in search of yaba pills and firearms.
“But, they did not take any official permission from the authorities to conduct the drive. Moreover, they did not wear the jackets with “DB” written on the back during the drive, which is considered a violation of our rule.”
On the other hand, Syed Nasim alleged the DB personnel stole Tk300,000 from him during the drive.
When asked, Tanveer told the Dhaka Tribune: “An Investigation is underway. All information will be made public once it is completed.”
