456 killed across country in 2 months: BHRC

A total of 456 people were killed throughout the country in last two months (Oct-Nov), showing a serious law and order slide, says a report.

 

Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC), a rights watchdog, prepared the report collecting data from its different offices at district, upazila, and pourasava levels, and the news published in national dailies.

 

Of the 456 victims, 51 were killed in political violence while the highest 169 murdered in social violence, 111 in domestic violence and the remaining 99 fell prey to secret killings.

 

Besides, six people were killed by law enforcers, seven after abduction, five women after rape, three women for dowry, two in sexual repression and two died of negligence of doctors.

 

According to the report, 319 other people were killed in road accidents across the country during the period while 37 committed suicide, 15 women fell victims to rapists and three were injured in acid attacks. Two journalists were also persecuted.

 

The BHRC expressed grave concern over the alarming rise in killings as the daily average killing stands at over seven during the 60-day period.
