3 Bangladeshis killed in India

Three Bangladeshi nationals have been beaten to death by allegedly by Indian civilians in the Khowai town of Indian Tripura state, close to Balla border in Habigabj’s Chunarughat upazila.

The victims are Karam Ali, who was in his thirties, Sujon Miah, and Akal Miah, both of whom their twenties, were from Alinagar village at Gazipur union of the upazila.

Quoting Gazipur union parishad chairman Tajul Islam, Chunarughat police officer-in-charge Amulya Kumar Chowdhury said the trio left their on houses on Monday night and they did not return.

He said some Indian villagers caught them in Bachaibari area of the Khowai town on Monday night suspecting them to be cattle robbers and gave them a mass beating, leaving Karam and Sujon dead on the spot and Akal injured.

Akal later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital there.

Lt Col Nasir Uddin, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh Srimangal Battalion, confirmed the incident.

This was the chilling reminder of a similar incident when three more Bangladeshis — Siddique Ali, Anwar Miah and Omar Ali, all hailing from Gazipur union — were chopped to death by Indian villagers in the Khowai town on April 5 last.
