100 Regent passengers stranded in Kuala Lumpur

The passengers informed bdnews24.com of the flight delay and their plight over phone on Thursday.

Authorities of Bangladesh’s private airliner, however, said the flight had been rescheduled after a plane that operated on the Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route suffered technical glitch.

A passenger, Salauddin Bhuiyan, told bdnews24.com from Kuala Lumpur: “The flight was supposed to start for Dhaka at 3pm (local time) on Thursday. But we were told that the flight will take off at 8pm as the flight didn’t arrive in time.”

He said the passengers contacted the airline office after the plane failed to reach Kuala Lumpur in time, but nobody at the office had satisfactory answer.

“No official from Regent came to the passengers during this long delay. No arrangements for food and hotel accommodation were made,” he added.

Bhuiyan said the flight delay had caused immense troubles to the passengers.

‘Len’, a passenger, was supposed to come to Dhaka on the Regent flight on a business trip.

He told bdnews24.com: “Nobody is available at Regent’s airport office to explain why the flight is not taking off. Officials have kept their phones switched off.”

“There is nobody to enquire about us. We don’t know if we can go (to our destination), at all,” he added.

Regent authorities in Dhaka admitted the schedule had been upset.

Airline’s public relations general manager Reazul Islam said on Thursday: “This situation has been created as the aircraft meant for carrying the passengers developed technical glitch. The flight will carry the passengers to Dhaka at 6am tomorrow.”

He said they would arrange food and accommodation for the passengers during the delay.

Regent operates four flights on Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route a week with Boeing 737 aircraft.
