Work on Padma Bridge soil test to begin soon: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said work on the soil test for the Padma Bridge project will begin very soon.

Talking to reporters while inspecting the project area, the minister also noted that the first consignment of the bridge construction equipment has already arrived in Chittagong port from China and the 2nd one will arrive by September 15.

Chinese company Sino Hydro and South Korean Hyundai have submitted their proposals against the tender of the river training component of the project, he said, adding that the proposals will be sent to the purchase committee of the Finance Ministry for final approval.

Sino Hydro has proposed a cost of Tk 8,707.81 crore for the river training while Hyundai Tk 12,122.61 crore, he said.

Quader said the implementation of the Padma Bridge has in fact started as the technical evaluation committee and the consultation firm on August 4 selected the two companies for the river training and sought their proposals.
