Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka on Tuesday urged the Army to withdraw its members from the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as what he said that a deep conspiracy was being hatched to tarnish the image of the Army.

Khoka, also the BNP’s Dhaka metropolitan unit convenor, came up with the call at a protest meeting at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

The Dhaka city unit BNP organised the meeting in protest against the filing of cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the relocation of the trial of her graft cases to Alia Madrasah makeshift court.

Khoka said: “A deep conspiracy is being hatched in a bid to tarnish the image of the Army. The Army should withdraw their members from the RAB. We want the image of the Army to be upheld.”

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that to keep BNP chief Khaleda out of politics, she was being sued in false cases one after another so that she could not contest in the next general election.

“But filing of false cases won’t work. Similar cases were lodged against many of the patriot leaders in the past. But they couldn’t be prevented,” he added.

The BNP spokesperson also urged the party leaders and activists to take every necessary preparation to wage a strong anti-government movement.

BNP joint secretary general Amanullah Aman and Dhaka city BNP committee member secretary MA Salam also addressed the meeting.
