BNP to join polls under Hasina-led govt: Hanif

Dhaka, Nov 5 (UNB) – Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Tuesday said BNP will take part in the next general election under an all-party government led by Sheikh Hasina.

“The national election will be held before January 24 next as per the constitution. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will head the polls-time government according to the constitution. I do believe BNP will take part in the election,” he said.

Hanif said this while talking to reporters in front of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

The all-party government will be formed with elected representatives, said Hanif adding, “BNP has confidence in Awami League. They (BNP) have taken part in all polls so far held under the present government and won many. They’re waging a movement demanding restoration of the caretaker government system to rejuvenate its leaders and activists.”

About Jamaat’s participation in the all-party government, Hanif said the High Court cancelled Jamaat’s registration. “So there’s no scope to include them in the all-party government.”
