BNP threatens to get tougher

News - BNP threatens to get tougher
The main opposition BNP on Tuesday threatened to go for an even tougher set of fresh agitation programmes unless the government refrains from committing repressive acts and killing people.
“The movement will go on nonstop against this tyrant government to protect the nation and democracy. Fresh vigorous agitation programmes will come very soon. Leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia will announce new programmes from the April 10 rally (of 18-party alliance) to be held in Nayapaltan,” said BNP joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed.
He was talking to reporters in front of the BNP central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan during hartal hours.
Accusing the government of carrying out mass killing across the country, the BNP leader said, “The odour of dead bodies is found in the air. The government’s hands are now bloodstained.”
He also urged people to wage a strong resistance against the government’s prevalent atrocities.
Holding the government responsible for vandalising vehicles in different places, Salauddin Ahmed said, “Government agents are behind such incidents but they (govt) are shifting the blame onto the opposition.”
He also blamed the government for Monday’s incident where three vehicles, including one of private television channel ATN News, were torched near the BNP office soon after a rally.
Demanding release of the arrested opposition leaders and activists, Salauddin Ahmed said, “We’ll continue programmes until our (arrested) leaders are released.”
Earlier on Sunday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the shutdown for Tuesday to press for their various demands, including the release of its leaders and activists arrested from BNP’s Nayaplatan central office on March 11.
