The physical condition of Mirza Abbas, standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has shown signs of improvement following two rounds of brain surgery, his family said.

Speaking to reporters, his son Mirza Yasir Abbas confirmed that the second surgery was successfully completed on Friday night.

He added that preparations are in place to transfer his father to Singapore for further treatment if his condition stabilizes.

The first surgery was carried out earlier the same afternoon.

According to the medical board at Evercare Hospital Dhaka, both procedures were successful.

After Friday prayers, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Abbas at the hospital, where the medical board briefed him in detail about the BNP leader’s condition.

Abbas was admitted late Wednesday night after suddenly losing consciousness while drinking water during iftar.

In the 13th national parliamentary election, Abbas was elected as Member of Parliament from Dhaka-8, defeating Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

However, he was unable to attend the inaugural session of parliament due to illness.

His wife, Afroza Abbas, president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, has sought prayers from the public for his recovery.
