The rain-curtailed one-off Test, which saw just 170.2 overs in five days, is the second drawn match between the neighbours.

On both occasions, Bangladesh had to thank the rain gods for their survival.

Ashwin’s talismanic off-spin ripped through the Bangladesh batting, leaving the tall spinner with a five-wicket haul at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium on Sunday.

Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh chipped in with three wickets while India bundled the hosts out for 256 and enforced follow-on after tea.

Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes played out 15 overs for 23 before players shook hands for a draw.

Ashwin was the bright spot on another wet day, as the off-spinner completed his 10th five-wicket haul in Tests returning 5 for 87 in 25 overs.

Trailing India’s 462 for six, Imrul Kayes (72) and Shakib Al Hasan (9) resumed on 111 for three following a first session washout.

Ashwin, who had picked up two wickets on Saturday, dismissed Shakib in the second over of the day when the left-hander got a thick top edge to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha while attempting a cut shot.

Top scorer Kayes was beaten by the flight and bounce from Harbhajan, who got the left-hander stumped for his second wicket in his first match in over two years for India.

The 34-year-old finished with 3-64 with the wicket of Mohammad Shahid towards the end.

Kayes and Soumya Sarkar (37), who chopped on Varun Aaron to give the only wicket to a paceman in the innings, added 51 runs for the fifth wicket.

Shuvagata Hom (9) became Ashwin’s fourth scalp when the batsman inside-edged to short-leg for a catch in the final delivery before the tea break.

Debutant wicketkeeper Liton Das played a quick-fire knock of 44 from 45 balls before giving Ashwin his first five-for in an innings outside India.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his 173 that gave India control of the game since the first day.

India dominated all areas of the game.

The teams will now play a three-match ODI series, with the first match in Mirpur on Thursday.
