Three-day construction materials, power expo starts

Housing minister Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday said that affordable housing could be ensured to all people in the cities only if the construction materials were available in the market at affordable prices.
He urged the local and international companies involved in manufacturing construction materials innovating new methods and technologies to produce low cost and sustainable construction items.
Addressing the inaugural function of a three-day international exhibition on ‘construction materials, methods, equipments and real estate segments’ in the capital, Mosharraf said that many construction materials were found in the markets but most of those had no durability.
Conference and Exhibition Management Services Limited organised the three-day international exhibition at the International Convention City Bashundhara that will end on December 5.
In the exhibition, CEMS arranged at a time the ‘15th Power Bangladesh International Expo’ : ‘10th Solar Bangladesh Expo’, ‘18th Con-Expo’ and ‘16th Real Estate Expo.’
Housing minister said that the government had undertaken a policy to build high-rise apartment buildings in the new residential areas of the housing authorities including RAJUK instead of allotting plots to individuals.
He said that as a land hungry country there was no alternative but to undertake such policy to ensure proper utilisation of land.
Prime minister’s energy affairs adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said that some six years back people had to experience most of the nighttime without power but over the last six years the Awami League-led government had managed to overcome the situation by increasing power generation.
He said that 35 lakh people of Bangladesh were now using renewable solar home system which was the largest in number of using renewable energy in the world.
Tawfiq said that the government wanted to ensure electricity to all by the end of its current tenure.
Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, first vice-president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, demanded to formulate an energy policy and ensure infrastructural development to attract investment in the country.
President of CEMS Meherun N Islam presided over the inaugural function addressed by ambassador of Spain to Dhaka Eduardo de Laiglesia y del Rosal and Power Development Board member for planning and development Zahirul Islam Majumder.
The exhibition will remain open for the visitors from 10:30am to 7:30pm. The visitors would not have to pay entry fees to the exhibition.
Different local and international companies with their variety of construction materials and power products have been participating in the exhibition.
