Last month's fire at the Tazreen Fashions Limited was 'planned', a probe by the manufacturing association said on Monday.

A devastating blaze swept through the ill-fated multi-storied readymade garments factory in Ashulia industrial belt killing 111 workers.

The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers' and Exporters' Association (BGMEA) probe report accused several factory officials of being involved with the 'plot' and recommended to their trial for what they did.

Factory fires are not uncommon in Bangladesh and is generally blamed on lax security measures, poor electric fittings and overcrowding in work place.

BGMEA President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin unveiled the report at a press conference in the city.

Earlier a home ministry investigation had also describe the fire as an act of 'sabotage' although it did not identify anyone responsible for it.

The report, published on Dec 17, recommended filing lawsuits against nine officials of the factory including its owner Delowar Hossain.

“After analysing the evidence we collected by speaking to those present at the scene during the fire and the injured workers, we have got indications that the fire was planned . The whole incident should be properly probed and the conspirators should be brought to justice,” BGMEA president Mohiuddin said.
