The decision was taken on Tuesday at its Parliamentary Party meeting presided by Opposition Leader Raushan Ershad.
“We have unanimously decided that Tajul Islam will be the Opposition’s Chief Whip in the tenth Parliament,” JP Presidium member Kazi Firoz Rashid told the media after the meeting in Tajul Islam’s presence.
Replying a query, Rashid said that they were yet to decide who would be the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and informed reporters that it would be finalised in another meeting on Wednesday, after the first session of the new Parliament.
Tajul Islam, a presidium member of the party, has been elected MP in the Jan 5 polls from Kurigram-2.
The seven-time lawmaker also served as the Land Minister in the Ershad regime during the 90s.
