Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Friday urged the government to stop mockery with the people in the name of holding a fair general election on January 7.
‘The government is going to hold a ‘one-sided’ election which is a staged drama,’ said IAB secretary general Yunus Ahmad while addressing a brief rally at north gate of Baitul Mukarram national mosque in Dhaka.
Urging people to boycott the election, he said that there was no need to hold such type of election, spending huge amounts of state money.
‘IAB will submit a memorandum to the president through deputy commissioners in all districts on December 26 demanding cancellation of the election and a new education curriculum,’ Yunus announced.
The IAB leader also said that the current government introduced a new curriculum to destroy the education sector in a pre-planned way.
After the rally, IAB brought out a procession that started from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque after the Jummah prayer.
However, police intercepted the procession when IAB leaders and activists reached Paltan crossing and foiled it.
IAB, one of the political parties in Bangladesh that boycotted the election, has been demonstrating and demanding to dissolve parliament and hold an election under a neutral government and proportional representation system of parliament.
