Urging people to put up a resistance against the perpetrators who are now engaged in killing and conducting subversive activities in the name of movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday called the opposition leader to “stop the killing people and playing with their blood”.
“I’ll urge the opposition leader to stop the killing of people and playing with their blood as she (Khaleda) will not gain anything by taking corpses…she’ll be brought to justice one day for such misdeeds. She’ll be put on trial in Bangladesh,” she said.
Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League, was addressing an emergency meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee held at her official residence Ganobhaban on Wednesday afternoon.
She said: “I’ll urge the people of the country to catch those on the spot who are killing people, uprooting fishplates of railway tracks and making arson attacks on passenger buses…I’ll also urge the journalists to publish and air their pictures and video footage to help grab the miscreants and hold their trial,”
Continuing her scathing attacks on the opposition leader, she said: “How many corpses she (Khaleda) needs for the peace of her soul?
Hasina alleged that Khaleda Zia also planned to kill her time and again, especially through the August 21, 2004 grenade attack, where her cabinet members and her son were involved.
She further alleged that the BNP-Jamaat alliance has now waged a war against people through indiscriminate killing as there was no movement by them except killing common people through arson attacks on passenger buses, CNG drivers, students, rickshaw-pullers and passengers.
“The BNP and Jamaat-Shibir are now engaged in destroying the trust and confidence of the common people in political leadership,” she added.
Criticising late President Ziaur Rahman for grabbing power illegally, Hasina said Ziaur Rahman used to say, ‘I’ll make politics difficult for the politicians’.
“The same thing is being committed by the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir as they are now releasing videotapes for waging a movement like Osama Bin Laden had done.
“Had they been real politicians, they wouldn’t have engaged in killing people. They are not politicians; they are a disgrace to the politicians, and are killers,” she added.
AL central working committee members, including party general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and presidium members, attended the meeting.
