The month long folklore festival at Sonargaon fails to attract crowd this year due to political programmes like nonstop blockade and frequent hartal enforced by the opposition.
Organized by Bangladesh Folk Art and Crafts Foundation, the festival was inaugurated Minister for Cultural affairs Assaduzaman Noor inaugurated on January 15 at its rural location in Soanrgaon Upazila. Secretary Ministry of Cultural affairs Dr. Ranjit Kumar Biswas also spoke on the occasion. Poet Rabindra Gope, Director of the foundation presided over the function.
Foundation officials said, 172 stalls have been set up for the festival. There were exbibitions of rural crafts like, earthen utensils, bamboo crafts, handloom and embroidery were organized during the festival.
Special attractions was for the painted earthen pots of Rajshahi, bamboo and cane products of Sonargaon, embroidered hand fans of Chittagong, colourful carpets and doormat of Rangpur, tribal crafts of Rangamati, pottery products of Kishorganj, brass metals of Dhaka and mats of Munshiganj.
Different groups folk artists presented folk songs and dance every day. Also seminars and rural entertainments like playing with sticks, kite flying, folk life, exhibitions, folk story telling were organized in this connection. Besides there were stall of rural foodstuff specially the winter cakes being prepared instantly.
